Common Products
A variety of household and consumer products are used in the meth production process. Another indication of a meth lab can be the presence of these products:
- Lantern fuel (also known as Coleman Fuel and “white gas”)
- Xylene (paint thinner)
- Acetone
- Antifreeze (also “Heet” and other products used to dry fuel systems)
- Drain Cleaner (Red Devil Lye, other products that contain lye)
- Starter fluid for engines
- Denatured or Rubbing Alcohol
- Epsom salts or rock salts
- Iodine
- Matches (books or boxes)
- Batteries (certain types of camera batteries that contain Lithium)
- Kitty litter
Other Signs of a Meth Lab
| If you suspect a meth lab in your community, notify law enforcement immediately. Never examine a suspected lab or investigate the premises. Meth labs contain toxic and explosive chemicals. Some labs are even equipped with crude surveillance or booby-traps, and meth addicts are often paranoid, violent and unpredictable. |
