Meth can be manufactured in different ways. One of the manufacturing processes uses a gas called anhydrous ammonia. Farmers and others have legitimate uses for this gas. However, it is not uncommon for meth addicts to steal anhydrous ammonia.

Stolen anhydrous ammonia is frequently stored in compressed gas cylinders and propane tanks. An even clearer indication of meth production is a cylinder or tank with a “blue top.” A chemical reaction causes the brass valve on these tanks to turn blue when they are used to store the gas.

Other specialized products used in meth labs include Sulphuric acid, Muratic acid, and Toluene which is a solvent.

What's Cooking? Meth

If you suspect a meth lab in your community, notify law enforcement immediately. Never examine a suspected lab or investigate the premises. Meth labs contain toxic and explosive chemicals. Some labs are even equipped with crude surveillance or booby-traps, and meth addicts are often paranoid, violent and unpredictable.
