Service Awards
In order to recognize Sheriffs', deputy sheriffs', detention officers' and telecommunicators' loyal and competent service to a particular North Carolina Sheriff's Office in North Carolina and to the state of North Carolina, the Commission created the Service Award Programs. Through these programs, dedicated officers may receive local, statewide, and national recognition for their law enforcement service. An applicant may qualify for either the Intermediate Service Award or the Advanced Service Award under each of these programs:
Sheriffs' and Justice Officers' Service Award Program (full-time)
An applicant may qualify for the Intermediate Service Award if he or she is an elected or appointed sheriff or is a deputy sheriff, detention officer or telecommunicator holding a valid general or grandfather certification with a minimum of 15 years of service as a full time, certified justice officer.
An applicant may qualify for the Advanced Service Award if he or she is an elected or appointed sheriff or is a deputy sheriff, detention officer, or telecommunicator holding a valid general or grandfather certification with a minimum of 20 years of service as a full time, certified justice officer.
