Legal Counsel

The Department of Justice provides a legal counsel who advises the Commission on questions of law. At Commission meetings, the counsel sits to the left of the Chairman, and does not actively participate in the meeting unless asked a legal question. The counsel does play an active role, however, in individual certification hearings. The legal counsel also attends rule-making hearings to advise on the wording and legality of proposed amendments or additions to the rules.
