Child Identification Kit

When parents and caregivers call authorities to report missing children, too often they cannot provide an accurate description of their missing child. However, a survey conducted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children found that 34% of parents could not tell the exact weight, height and eye color of their children. All parents need to be able to provide this kind of identifying information to law enforcement in the event of an emergency.

To help parents, the Attorney General's Office, through the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), has developed the Child Identification Kit. This kit was designed to assist North Carolina;s law enforcement community in their efforts to identify lost or abducted children. By using finger and palm prints, photographs, written descriptions and DNA/blood marker, the kit can provide comprehensive information in the event a child is lost or missing. To receive a kit, please contact Victims and Citizens Services.
